God Blesses You When You Trust

God Blesses You When You Trust

Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this.
Psalm 37:5

God helps those who help themselves, right? That’s in the Bible, right? Wrong. God helps those who trust him. That’s the promise in the verse above. The verb commit means to “roll it over on.” It’s a synonym for trust.

Trusting requires stillness of soul and an ongoing willingness to listen. “What is the Lord saying? How and where does he want to lead me?” Trusting also requires us to wait. This is perhaps the most despised four-letter word of our generation.

Trying, on the other hand, feeds our ego and helps us fit in. We go to bed late and get up early because everybody else does, and because our culture applauds and rewards the productive, get-it-done person.

Today when you feel the pressure to get busy, to make it happen, to push ahead, to knock down doors, make sure you first look to and listen to God. Without his perspective, leading and help, you cannot find true blessing or ultimate success.

GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I help those who trust me.

MY PRAYER TO GOD
You promise to help me, Lord, if I will trust you. It goes against my old sinful nature to wait on your leading and to rely on your strength. My tendency is to get busy in my own strength. Forgive me. Change me. Increase my faith.
