God Helps You Face Your Fears
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you … Since you are precious and honored in my sight, and because I love you, I will give people in exchange for you, nations in exchange for your life.
Isaiah 43:2,4
Let’s be clear. God spoke the words of Isaiah 43 for the benefit of the Jews who would one day be living in exile in Babylon. This future generation, far from their homeland, and suffering discipline at the hands of God, would need comfort and courage. They would need a strong reminder in the midst of their mess that God still cared for them and that he had not given up on them.
Modern-day Christians can’t technically say this Old Testament prophecy is a promise to us. But we can use the passage as a window into the very heart and character of God. Reading Isaiah 43, we are reminded that God is always with us, that he is our Savior (see also Titus 3:4), and that he loves us with an affection that we cannot begin to fathom (see also Ephesians 3:19).
Such assurances can give us the courage to face whatever troubles life brings.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I am with you in times of trouble.
• I am your God and Savior.
• You are precious to me.
• I love you!
MY PRAYER TO GOD
You are always with me in times of great trouble. Thank you, Lord, for your constant protection and care. You are the one true God, and the only one who can save. I have confidence and peace when I remember your power and might.
