God Holds You Close
He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart; he gently leads those that have young.
Isaiah 40:11
Some years ago an elderly college librarian put a sign on her desk offering “free hugs” to students. Initially the sign provoked only raised eyebrows. But before long a few disheartened and lonely students began to take the librarian up on her offer. Soon the trickle became a stream, and during final exam weeks it is said that there would often be a line of stressed-out students waiting for a brief bit of tender loving care.
Sometimes when everything in our lives is going south, a little TLC is all we need to make it through the day. A shoulder to cry on, the touch of a caring human being, a pat on the back, a hug. God knows that we need those things and provides people to act as his hands in this world. But in addition to that, God himself promises to gather us in his arms.
Will you let the Sovereign Lord hold you close to his heart right now?
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I will lead you.
• I will carry you in my arms.
• I will hold you close to my heart.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
Shepherd, you faithfully feed and guide your flock. Thank you for your protection and provision. You are gentle, and you hold me in your arms. What an amazing promise! When I am afraid or worried or tired, remind me that you desire to carry me with all tenderness.
