God Is Faithful
Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments.
Deuteronomy 7:9
God is faithful. That’s a powerful statement. To be faithful means to keep one’s promises, to keep an agreement. God is perfect in all of his characteristics, so he is perfectly faithful. That means that every promise he gives is a promise that he will keep.
God also desires that we be faithful to him. In fact, much of the Old Testament talks about the unfaithfulness of the people of Israel despite God’s constant faithfulness to them.
We want to be faithful, and we hope that the people around us are faithful too. But faithfulness is not work that we must do in order to be accepted by God. It is a fruit of the Spirit’s work in us.
The prophet Jeremiah reminds us of God’s faithfulness: “His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness” (Lamentations3:22-23).
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I am perfectly faithful. I will keep all of my promises to you.
• Faithfulness is the fruit of my Spirit working in you.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
Thank you, Lord, for being faithful. You keep all of your promises for a thousand generations. None of your promises will ever fail. May I exhibit faithfulness in my relationships and interactions with others.
