God Is Your Shepherd
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
Psalm 23:1
Psalm 23 is probably the most beloved chapter in the Bible. And for good reason. It contains beautiful imagery of God’s care and concern for his people.
In David’s picture, we are sheep—implying we are helpless, not too bright, skittish and prone to wander off and get into trouble. And for many of us, that’s a fairly accurate description.
The Lord, however, is depicted as our shepherd (see also John 10:11-14). He’s watching. Leading. Feeding. Protecting. Caring. As long as we stay close to him, we have no worries whatsoever.
That’s the timeless message of the Bible’s most well-known psalm. Can you think of any promise more relevant for busy Christians in a bustling age?
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I am your shepherd.
• I will provide all that you need.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
Shepherd of my soul, I praise you and thank you for your care. You are not just my Creator or my God. You are not just the King or the Judge of the universe. You are my Shepherd. I am so blessed! Because of you, I lack nothing. Keep me from complaining. Help me not to worry. Let me rest in the promise that as I go where you lead, you will meet all my needs.
