God Never Changes
I the Lord do not change.
Malachi 3:6
Sometimes we do it to ourselves—foolishly taking on too much and getting in over our heads. At other times we are doing right but still find ourselves inundated by a tidal wave of events beyond our control.
Whatever the reason, in moments of excessive stress and uncertainty, it is good to remember we have an anchor in the storm: the constancy of God.
Theologians call this immutability—a fancy word for the fact that God is unchanging. He is not moody or unpredictable. His affection and care for us do not waver. God’s eternal plans are not altered by time, nor are they foiled by human choices.
Memorize today’s concise promise and meditate on it the next time you feel overwhelmed by personal upheaval or professional chaos.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I am the Lord.
• I do not change.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
O Lord, you are God! Help me to remember today that I can rest in the truth that you control all things. You never change—you are the same yesterday, today and forever. When my life is like a whirlwind, and I begin to lose my bearings, give me the wisdom to anchor myself to your unchanging character.
