You Can Live A Godly Life
His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness. Through these he has given us his very great and precious promises.
2 Peter 1:3-4
Living a godly life sounds difficult and intimidating, doesn’t it? After all, we’re so imperfect. We can be glad God promises that we don’t have to do it alone; Jesus’ divine power will give us everything we need to live godly lives. We don’t need to keep an exhausting number of rules or lock ourselves away from the world. That is not God’s plan. Instead, we are to draw on the divine power Jesus gives us.
Peter goes on to say that Jesus’ divine power also gives us all the promises of God’s Word. If God’s power gives God’s promises, then those promises are sure and steadfast. As we apply the benefits of those promises to our lives, we can live “a godly life.”
Where does it all begin? “Through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” We can pray for spiritual growth—to know Jesus better. Many rich and wonderful promises are ours as we grow. As we learn to apply these promises, our faith will produce moral and spiritual excellence.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I will give you everything you need to live a godly life.
• Your faith will produce a godly life.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
You promise, Lord, that as we get to know Jesus better, his divine power will give us everything we need for living a godly life. Help me grow spiritually. May I live for you.
