You Can Live By Faith
For through the law I died to the law so that I might live for God. I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
Galatians 2:19-20
These verses have a mystical wonder to them. When we try to wrap our minds around these concepts, we can’t figure them out: We have been crucified, yet we live. We died, and yet we are alive. We are still ourselves living our lives, but Christ is living in and through us. In these words we find the breathless wonder of our intimate relationship with Jesus Christ. He is not a god “out there” somewhere nor a stone-cold idol. He is a person who lived, died and rose again. Jesus is God himself, brought into focus before our eyes. When we accept him as our Savior, his crucifixion becomes our own, for he was crucified in our place. Now, through his Holy Spirit, he lives in us, and we live our lives by faith in him, trusting the One who loved us and gave himself for us.
Let’s pray that we will sense the wonder of what Christ has done for us. May we sense the glory of being crucified and raised with Christ and resolve to live out our faith in him.
GOD’S PROMISE TO ME
• I died so you can be made new.
• You share in my death.
MY PRAYER TO GOD
I have been crucified with Christ, and so I no longer live, but you live in me. What a wonder it is, Lord, that you would take up residence in my life. Set me free to serve you with all my heart and soul. May I live joyously because of my faith in you.
