Chosen of God

Chosen of God

You are a chosen people. You are a kingdom of priests, God’s holy nation, his very own possession. This is so you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. 1 Peter 2:9

This is a wonderful word of encouragement, and it reflects the great destiny of every believer. We who once were not a people are now the people of God, greatly prized and loved, his own possession. Thus we have a high calling: to be his ambassadors, proclaiming his attributes and living lives that demonstrate his goodness so that others can see and experience his gracious, boundless love. Because God called us “out of the darkness into his wonderful light,” we are to be witnesses to the watching world, not just with our words but also with our actions—the way we run our businesses, treat our neighbors, and nurture our children. How we need the Spirit to make us more like Jesus so that others will want to know him because of what they see in us! Ask God to help you surrender more of yourself to him that he might release more of his light in you. May he help you to show his goodness in your home, at your workplace, and wherever you go.

Prayers:
HOLY SPIRIT, thank you for bringing me out of darkness into your wonderful light because of your mercy. Thank you for making us your people, your very own possession. Help me to continually yield to you so that the life and character of Christ will be formed in me. Then others may see your goodness and will be drawn to you.

Quotes:
God is preparing you as his chosen arrow. As yet your shaft is hidden in his quiver, in the shadows . . . but at the precise moment at which it will tell with the greatest effect, he will reach for you and launch you to that place of his appointment.
Charles R. Swindoll (b. 1934)
