Great and Marvelous

Great and marvelous are your actions, Lord God Almighty. Just and true are your ways, O King of the nations. Who will not fear, O Lord, and glorify your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous deeds have been revealed. Revelation 15:3-4

This song, once sung by Moses as the Israelites celebrated their deliverance from Egypt, also appears in today’s passage. The redeemed are gathered after triumphing over the forces of evil. The Lord has revealed his marvelous deeds and is about to execute the glorious climax to his purposes on earth. Now true worship pours forth for the King of the nations: “Great and marvelous are your actions, Lord God Almighty!” Imagine being a part of this celebration and thinking, This is taking too long; I’ve got people coming for Sunday lunch, and I need to fix food. We wouldn’t even consider it! We’d be so caught up in the glory and majesty of the Lord that everything else would fade in importance.

At Christmastime we have so much to do—family arriving from out of town, last-minute presents to wrap, to-do lists to get done—that we get distracted from the real purpose of the season: to worship the King of kings. God is just as worthy of glory and honor and power today as he will be on that great day depicted in Revelation. Today, put everything else aside if necessary, and take time to honor and worship the Lord.

Prayers:
OH, LORD GOD ALMIGHTY, your deeds are great and marvelous. You are King of the nations and Lord of my life! You alone are holy and worthy to receive glory, honor, and power. May the things that distract me and my excuses for not spending time with you fade in the light of your glory. Fill my heart with a sense of your greatness and majesty. I adore you, Christ the Lord!

Quotes:
Worship is the highway of reverence and washes the dust of earth from our eyes.
