He Hears!

He Hears!

Praise the Lord! For he has heard my cry for mercy. The Lord is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. Psalm 28:6-7

This psalm encourages us to lift our hearts in gratitude and praise to God because he has heard our cries. And because he has heard, our hearts are helped even before the situation changes. Because we live in a high-tech world, we have become accustomed to instant messages and immediate replies to our e-mails. Caller ID, call waiting, pagers, and cell phones encourage an almost certain “no waiting period” for conversation, and speed-dial links allow us to connect even more quickly. However, many times when we pray, we don’t hear a booming voice instantly reply from heaven, “Message has been sent and received.” We may have poured out our requests but seen nothing change in the circumstances. Yet deep inside we can know that God has heard us. Even when we do not have the feeling of being heard, we still have the fact. We have God’s word on it: The Lord “has heard my cry for mercy.”

Prayers:
FATHER, thank you for hearing my prayers . . . always! Even when my situation remains the same, grant me grace to trust you and to thank you for your listening ear and your gracious help. Because of your mercy, I will sing songs of thanksgiving to you. Because of your help, may my heart be filled with joy!

Quotes:
O Lord! that lends me life, Lend me a heart replete with thankfulness!
William Shakespeare (1564–1616)
