Help!

Help!

O Lord my God, I cried out to you for help, and you restored my health. You brought me up from the grave, O Lord. You kept me from falling into the pit of death. Psalm 30:2-3

The cry for help. . . . How many times is it directed toward the wrong things? People often look for help in riches and wealth. They may place their trust in power and prestige. They seek after fame, fortune, and fantasy in the hope that in these things they will find what they desire. Some work at preserving their youth in an attempt to gain hope and help. But the truth is that things will not provide the kind of lasting help and satisfaction that most people desire. The positive influence of these things is fleeting at best and may, in fact, not even be a positive influence at all. There is only One who can bring the help that will keep us from the pit of death.

Let us cry out to the Lord for help, just as the psalmist did. God is the One whose love is unending. He is the One with limitless resources. God is the One with ultimate power. Call out to the One who is more than capable of providing whatever help and hope you need.

Prayers:
HEAVENLY FATHER, forgive me for looking for help in all the wrong places. Thank you for your constant love and your desire to be my help. And thank you for extending your help to me today! Only your love will not fail. Only you can satisfy. Only you can give hope that does not disappoint us.

Quotes:
TO PRAY IS NOTHING MORE INVOLVED THAN TO OPEN THE DOOR, GIVING JESUS ACCESS TO OUR NEEDS AND PERMITTING HIM TO EXERCISE HIS OWN POWER IN DEALING WITH THEM.
Ole Hallesby (1879–1961)
