Keep Up Your Courage
We are God’s household, if we keep up our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ. That is why the Holy Spirit says, “Today you must listen to his voice.” Hebrews 3:6-7

This passage calls us to a deeper faith and joyful confidence based on our hope in Christ. Just as their unbelief kept the first generation of Israelites from entering the land God had promised and prepared for them, when we go through testing, trials, or wilderness seasons, our hearts can turn away from God through unbelief. We may continue going through all the outward motions, going to church and attending meetings, but inwardly discouragement sets in and our confidence fails. We wonder if the Lord really cares. We begin to doubt his love and try to live life in our own strength instead of depending on him. As we tune out God’s voice, we tune in the world’s. That is why the writer of Hebrews exhorts us to keep up courage, to listen to God’s voice, and to remain confident because of our hope in Christ. God doesn’t leave us to our own devices to muster up this confidence; he stands ready to fill us anew with hope and courage whenever we ask.

FATHER, thank you for making me a part of your household. I ask you, Holy Spirit, to fill me and renew my confidence in Christ Jesus, in his finished work on the cross, and in his glorious coming again. Strengthen me to keep up my courage today, and empower me to believe your Word, to listen attentively to your voice, and to remain confident because my hope is in Christ.
