Sing with Joy

Sing with Joy

Let the godly sing with joy to the Lord, for it is fitting to praise him. Praise the Lord with melodies on the lyre; make music for him on the ten-stringed harp. Sing new songs of praise to him; play skillfully on the harp and sing with joy. For the word of the Lord holds true, and everything he does is worthy of our trust He loves whatever is just and good, and his unfailing love fills the earth. Psalm 33:1-5

This psalm is chock-full of reasons to sing songs of joy to the Lord and to praise him no matter what we are facing: because his Word holds true and everything he does is worthy of our trust. Because his unfailing love fills the earth. Because with just a word from God the heavens and earth were created. Because his plans stand firm forever. And in spite of the enemy’s schemes or even the actions of powerful nations, God’s intentions for you and for his kingdom can never be shaken.

But what if today you don’t feel like singing songs of joy? What if painful or difficult circumstances have stolen your joy? Frustrations assail you; burdens or responsibilities weigh your heart down so that the last thing you want to do is sing with joy. Ask God for the grace to praise him; ask him to open your spiritual eyes so that you stand in awe of him, for “it is fitting to praise him”!

Prayers:
LORD, open my eyes to see your unfailing love and goodness. Renew my trust in your Word. With a word you brought into existence the stars in the heavens and held the seas in place. Nothing can thwart your plans. Fill my heart with songs of joy. You are worthy of my unending praise!

Quotes:
JOY IS AN UNCEASING FOUNTAIN BUBBLING UP IN THE HEART; A SECRET SPRING THE WORLD CAN’T SEE AND DOESN’T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT. THE LORD GIVES HIS PEOPLE PERPETUAL JOY WHEN THEY WALK IN OBEDIENCE TO HIM.
D. L. Moody (1837–1899)
