The Power of His Hands

The Power of His Hands

I entrust my spirit into your hand. Psalm 31:5

The word entrust means “to confide, to commit, to leave with.” What surrender this brief prayer expresses. It was spoken not only by the psalmist David but also by Stephen, the first martyr, as he was being stoned and by Jesus as he hung on the cross. Each of these men yielded their very lives into the hands of almighty God, for they knew his hands are the instruments of his power—his personal and active involvement. God the Father beckons us also to come to him and to entrust our hopes and dreams, our possessions, our families, and our careers to his control. He calls us to commit every worry or burden to his care, and he graciously summons us, through the shed blood of his Son, to leave even our lives in his powerful hands. And he has provided prayer as our means of doing this. When we “let go and let God,” we will begin to experience his power transforming our lives more and more into the image of his Son, Jesus.

Prayers:
OH, FATHER, I entrust my spirit, my very life, into your hands this day. You are mighty beyond my ability to imagine, and you have made the way for me to do so . . . through the blood of Jesus. How I praise you for prayer, for through it I can let go and give over control of my life to you!

Quotes:
TRUST INVOLVES LETTING GO AND KNOWING GOD WILL CATCH YOU.
James C. Dobson (b. 1936)
