Seeing Sin From God’s Perspective

Seeing Sin From God’s Perspective

Worship God … with reverence and awe, for our “God is a consuming fire”.
Hebrews 12:28-29

Sinful humans usually get angry for all the wrong reasons. The holy God is angry for all the right reasons.

“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people” (Romans 1:18).

God hates sin and is intolerant of anyone or anything that would compete for the glory that rightly belongs to him. A. W. Pink offers these reasons why remembering God’s righteous wrath will aid you in your own struggle against sin.

WALK WITH A. W. PINK
“The wrath of God is a perfection of the divine character on which we need to meditate frequently.

“First, that our hearts may be impressed by God’s hatred of sin. We are ever prone to regard sin lightly, to gloss over its hideousness, to make excuses for it. But the more we study and ponder God’s abhorrence of sin and his frightful vengeance upon it, the more likely we are to realize its heinousness.

“Second, to beget a true fear in our souls for God. We cannot serve him acceptably unless there is deep reverence for his majesty and godly fear of his righteous anger. These are best promoted by frequently calling to mind that our God is a consuming fire.

“Third, to draw out our soul in fervent praise to Jesus Christ for having delivered us from the wrath to come. In truth, our readiness or our reluctance to meditate upon the wrath of God becomes a test of how our hearts stand toward him.”

WALK CLOSER TO GOD
Father, I confess that I often fail to remember your consuming hatred of sin and too often forget the one on whom your wrath was poured.

Teach me to be angry at the things that anger you. Then I will sense the burning light of your holiness and the true depth of your love for me. Amen.
