The Power To Do, To Dare And To Suffer

The Power To Do, To Dare And To Suffer

Jesus [said], “Everything is possible for one who believes”.
Mark 9:23

The father’s heart was cracking with grief and his mind was wrestling with doubt as his son writhed on the ground in the grip of an impure spirit. “I do believe,” he cried, “help me overcome my unbelief!”

If you find yourself discouraged by doubt, remember this father’s honest prayer—and these encouraging words from Charles Spurgeon.

WALK WITH CHARLES SPURGEON
“The father said to Jesus, ‘If you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.’

“Now there was an if in the question. But the poor, trembling father had put the fin the wrong place. Christ, without commanding him to retract the if kindly puts it in its legitimate position.

“He seemed to say, ‘There should be no if about my power, nor concerning my willingness; the if lies elsewhere. If you can believe, everything is possible for him who believes.’

“We, like this man, often see that there is an if somewhere, but we are perpetually blundering by putting it in the wrong place.

“Faith stands in God’s power and is robed in God’s majesty; it wears the royal apparel and rides on the King’s horse, for it is the grace which the King delights to honor. Girding itself with the glorious might of the all-working Spirit, faith becomes, in the omnipotence of God, power to do, to dare, and to suffer. All things, without limit, are possible to the one who believes.”

WALK CLOSER TO GOD
Jesus later reminds his disciples that “all things are possible with God” (Mark 10:27).

Even Jesus’ closest followers were prone to forget the power they saw him exercise time after time. Like Abraham, they needed to be “fully persuaded that God had power to do what he had promised” (Romans 4:21).

God’s Word gives numerous examples of God’s power at work in response to a person’s faith. So when doubts assail you, remember this: With God, the possibilities are limitless!
